e are pleased to present "Toto" - the newest addition to our exciting series based on the classic 1939 motion picture masterpiece The Wizard of Oz.

Faithfully based on the character immortalized in the 1939 film, Oz's beloved canine has been brought to life by R. JOHN WRIGHT DOLLS for the first time in the medium of molded plush.

In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, author L. Frank Baum described Toto as "a little black dog with long silky hair and small black eyes that twinkled merrily on either side of his funny, wee nose." In the accompanying book illustrations, Toto appears to be either a Cairn or Yorkshire Terrier breed.

In the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, Toto was played by a female brindle Cairn Terrier whose real name was Terry. Terry's owner and trainer was a man named Carl Spitz who ran the Hollywood Dog Training School. In 1938, Terry was taken to a casting call looking for a dog that resembled Dorothy's little dog in the Wizard of Oz books. Terry was hired on the spot at a weekly salary of $125 (over twice as much as the Singer Midgets each received for playing the Munchkins).

Terry appeared in 15 films altogether - including Bright Eyes with Shirley Temple. The Wizard of Oz was the only film in which Terry actually got a screen credit. Three years after her immortal role in The Wizard of Oz, Terry's name was officially changed to Toto.

Toto from R. John Wright Dolls is faithfully based on the original motion picture images of Dorothy's stalwart companion. Toto is jointed at the neck and constructed entirely of custom-made mohair plush and felt with skillful airbrushed coloration, hand embroidered features, a felt tongue, and imported glass eyes. Standing just 3 1/2" tall, this detailed miniature is perfectly scaled to accompany the R. John Wright Dorothy doll.

Toto is officially licensed by Warner Brothers and is a genuine Oz collectible that should be a part of every R. John Wright or Wizard of Oz collection. Toto is produced at the R. John Wright Dolls studio workshop in Bennington, Vermont, in a worldwide limited edition of only 350 pieces. Each will come enclosed in a deluxe presentation box with the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration. Matching edition numbers will be provided to other characters in the R. John Wright Wizard of Oz collection subject to availability.
