THE PRIMROSE FAIRY

Primrose

THE SONG OF
THE PRIMROSE FAIRY

The Primrose opens wide in spring;
Her scent is sweet and good:
It smells of every happy thing
In sunny lane and wood.
I have not half the skill to sing
And praise her as I should.

She's dear to folk throughout the land;
In her is nothing mean:
She freely spreads on every hand
Her petals pale and clean.
And though she's neither proud nor grand,
She is the Country Queen.

The Flower Fairies made their debut at a special ticketed dinner event held during the first R. John Wright convention in 2009. This important series broke new ground both artistically and technically and marked a major departure in the construction of R. John Wright dolls. In order to closely evoke the various poses of the Flower Fairy characters as depicted in the original Cicely Mary Barker illustrations, a completely new jointing system was devised. Each fairy has a hollow sculptural torso with an internal wood mechanism to connect the limbs and head. The ball & socket joints provided a far greater degree of movement then the former rotating disc method.

In addition to the jointing innovations, the scale of the fairies called for new limb molds in varied and expressive poses and incredibly tiny individually sewn and turned fingers. Techniques were also devised to produce Cicely Barker's botanically-exact flowers, leaves, and berries, in felt and fabric.

From Flower Fairies of the Spring - the enchanting Primrose Fairy is constructed of the finest all wool felt and measures 11 1/2" tall. Her facial features are delicately hand painted and she has a wig of the finest imported mohair. Her magnificent fairy wings are sewn of fine silk organza and are carefully embossed and delicately hand colored.

The Primrose Fairy is dressed in a 2-piece felt outfit consisting of a petal skirt and leaf bodice. She wears custom dyed knit silk tights and dainty silk slippers on her feet. This Spring Flower Fairy comes holding a detailed, realistic primrose blossom made of molded, hand painted felt.

The Primrose Fairy was produced in an edition of 250 pieces worldwide. Each came enclosed in an elegant RJW Flower Fairy presentation box with the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
