PARTY EEYORE |
The R. John Wright "Pocket Series" began with the release of "Pocket Pooh" in 1993. The delightful miniature bear proved to be so popular that an entire "Pocket-size" collection grew out of it based on the characters in the Winnie-the-Pooh books by A. A. Milne and illustrated by E. H. Shepard. The third issue in the series, following Pocket Pooh and Pocket Piglet, was "Pocket Eeyore." Like the other animal characters in the Pocket collection, Eeyore was first sculpted in wax and then molded using custom-made metal molds to give him sculptural form and consistency in production.
In 1995 R. John Wright and Susan Wright attended the Walt Disney World Doll & Teddy Bear Convention. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Walt Disney World, a special 'edition within the edition' was created using the Tigger and Eeyore pocket animals. Only 100 pieces of each were embellished with a party hat for Tigger and a festive cotton bow for Eeyore's tail. Dubbed "Party Tigger" and "Party Eeyore", the number in the 100 piece edition was hand written by R. John Wright on the reverse of the certificate during the signing event.
Eeyore (shown at right in photo) stands just 3 1/2" tall and is fully jointed and made of custom-made plush coating with glass eyes, hand-embroidered features, and poseable wired ears lined in felt. His mane is made of fine wool yarn which is also added to tip of his tacked-on tail. The party bow on Eeyore's tail is made of hand dyed cotton fabric which has been sewn and turned before tying in place.
Like the other characters in the Pocket collection, Party Eeyore comes enclosed in a deluxe RJW presentation box with an applied Shepard watercolor on the lid. Included is an illustrated booklet, the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity with the notation "Party Eeyore" on the reverse, and the forms for owner registration.
