AT this year's RJW Convention we held a very special breakfast event titled 'The House That Mouse Built.' The centerpieces at the event were stunning handmade 'Mouse Houses' created specially for us by the local DOLLHOUSE & TOY MUSEUM OF VERMONT . Each of these delightful 2-story dwellings is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece scaled perfectly to the R. John Wright mice!
The Mouse Houses are designed and assembled by sisters, Helen Greene, a retired art teacher, and Jackie Marro, curator of the Dollhouse & Toy Museum. Each house and the furniture inside are unique. Since they are made of natural materials no two are exactly alike. Your special Mouse House will have a ground-floor room with a fireplace, a table and seating. The upper level (which the mice access via a handmade ladder) features a comfy bed along with other furnishings and accessories. Both rooms include fanciful wallpaper and miniature framed pictures. The house is mounted on a round wood base covered with RJW all-wool felt. The outside garden area and the rooftop provide lots of room for the mice to multiply! Shown above is a typical Mouse House. [Note: the RJW mice are not included.] The curved back of the house is covered in birch bark. Below are four different rooms to give you an idea of the wonderful creativity and diversity in each. The detail is incredible and all the furnishings may be arranged and re-arranged to provide endless settings for your RJW mice. You can also have a lot of fun adding new things such as dollhouse food, baskets, books, a watering can etc. to further personalize your Mouse House.
Each Mouse House is made entirely of indigenous woods including: birch, apple, peach, pear, willow and hawthorn. The house measures approximately 14 inches tall with a 16 inch diameter base.
