Produced in 2007, the Brownie Band members were the very first pieces in our acclaimed PALMER COX BROWNIE COLLECTION.

Palmer Cox (1840-1924) is famous the world over for his fictional creatures known as The Brownies: little members of the fairie or goblin world "who delight in harmless pranks and helpful deeds." The first of Cox's "Brownie" books was published in 1887 and was an immediate sensation. With detailed illustrations and classic four-beat iambic verse story-poems, Cox brought the folklore tales he learned as a child to life. He went on to publish fifteen more Brownie books, leaving behind a legacy of delight for children and the young-at-heart.

Measuring approximately 8"tall, each RJW Brownie is made entirely of the finest all-wool felt and jointed at the shoulders and neck. Heavy wire inside the legs enable them to be self-standing. Carefully based on the original illustrations, the Brownies are skillfully molded and delicately hand painted. The delightful period band uniforms are tailored of felt with tiny felt covered buttons. The Mace brownie's costume includes a brass buckle, and leather brimmed 'Kepi'-style cap with a mohair plume anchored with an RJW button. Each of the five band members includes a custom-made musical instrument and together they form a brass & percussion "Show Band." The "Mace" Brownie is the leader of the Band and proudly holds a mace baton in one hand.

The Brownie Band Members were produced in a limited edition of only 175 pieces. Each comes enclosed in a custom-made presentation box with accompanying certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
