"George & Martha" were produced for a ticketed dinner event "Washington Waltz" at the United Federation of Doll Clubs (UFDC) 64th Annual Convention July 31st, 2013 in Washington, DC.

The dolls were based on the artwork of Susan Beatrice Pearse (British, 1878-1980). Pearse was a prolific illustrator of children's books and producer of charming images of childhood widely used in postcards and greeting cards such as the one shown below.

"George & Martha" - a playful image of two sweet children costumed and dancing together as America's First Couple - are faithfully based on the charming Susan B. Pearse illustration. Both dolls stand approximately 11" tall, and are constructed of the finest all-wool felt. Fully jointed, George & Martha each have a sculpural hollow torso with rotating disc joints at the limbs and head to allow for expressive posing. The sculptural hands are sewn with individual fingers and the facial features are delicately painted by hand. Each doll has a wig of the finest imported mohair.

Pearse's darling little boy is costumed in a period uniform with cotton ruffles at the neck and wrists. He sports a felt waistcoat with tiny custom cast brass buttons. His fully-lined jacket is tailored of the finest custom-made cotton sateen fabric. He has cotton knit stockings and hand-cobbled leather shoes topped by silk rosettes. He wears an authentic bicorne hat embellished with silk ribbon.

The sweet little matching girl wears a beautifully detailed outfit made of fine custom-printed silk fabrics. Her fetching mob cap is sewn of cotton batiste embellished with a wide silk ribbon. Lace trimmed pantaloons, a quilted silk underskirt, cotton stockings, and hand-cobbled leather slippers complete her delightful period ensemble.

George & Martha were produced in a small edition of 200 pieces each. Both dolls will come with matching edition numbers enclosed inside their deluxe presentation boxes. Included with each is the accompanying signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and the forms for owner registration.
